The bodies of 10 more people have been recovered from the rubble of a collapsed five-storey residential building in Lyari Khada Market, bringing the death toll to 18.


The bodies recovered so far include six members of the same family who lived on the first floor of the collapsed building. Meanwhile, the bodies of seven people, including three women, who were buried under the rubble, were exhumed and shifted to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Three more bodies were later exhumed from the wreckage.

According to rescue officials, the deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Shahnaz wife Muhammad Shafiq, 20-year-old Shehzad son Muhammad Shafi, 32-year-old Maimona wife Saeed, 52-year-old Tawfiq son Abdul Rauf, 23-year-old Saeed son Shafiq and 30-year-old Faisal alias Bihar. Officers of Pakistan Army Engineering Corps, Sindh Rangers and rescue personnel are engaged in relief work with modern equipment to remove the debris of the building. Pakistani Army sniffer dogs are also searching for people buried under the rubble.
